About
"Do not ask me who I am and do not expect me to stay the same." -- Michel Foucault
I graduated from the University of Plymouth in 2009 with a bachelors degree in Computing and Web Technologies. Since graduating and being in and out of work given the volatility of the job market and lack of suitable roles, out of frustration I decided to take up a TEFL course in early 2010 and have been involved in teaching ever since Autumn 2010. For me teaching is a very rewarding experience, in which I'm able to directly see how my efforts are helping others progress towards their learning goals. Sadly, I had to shorten my teaching placement in China as my father was diagnosed with terminal cancer in late 2010 and died in July 2011.

Since returning back from China, I have been involved with teaching English online to both adults and children in South Korea and business professionals is Spain and Chile. It has been largely enjoyable and has afforded me the opportunity to freelance and meet people from many different walks of life. In March 2012, I went with a group of acquaintances to Bali, Indonesia on a working holiday for 6 weeks in which I've been involved in helping prototype a web application with Chris Larcombe and also running voluntary workshops with Tanya Moore for teaching English to children in Balinese communities. On returning to the UK, I'm still in collaboration with Chris in developing waysphere as well as being involved in other unpaid projects and collaborations. Ideally, I would like to be able to integrate my interest in teaching with my technical skills as I also like to work and develop with new technologies, for now I'm looking for entry level postions in web development. Feel free to have a look around on this page, or drop me an email/call if you wish to contact me.

Product Support Analyst

ICCM

September 2009 - December 2009

Providing B2B support for inhouse service desk BPM software following ITIL methodologies. My role involved assisting high profile clients over the phone, email and remote access in resolving incidents within the given SLA period, raising requests, liaising with partners and providing documentation and instructions to clients. A large proportion of this role involved correcting procedural errors within Metastorm BPM and MSSQL database issues.

Systems Support Intern

National Oceanography Centre

July 2007 - July 2008

Working as part of the Systems Team of 4, my role within the IT department was primarily providing UNIX systems support to around 100 *NIX (Red Hat, SuSE, Solaris) workstations on the site and helping manage the various servers in the computer room including WWW, NTP, FTP, SSH, SMTP, POP, NIS, DNS, VMware, Samba, NFS blade servers, IBM Tape Library and 2 HPC clusters.

This role also involved several sessions a week on a service desk dealing with incidents via phone, email and in person and logging them appropriately. Although my specialty was in UNIX systems, I often had to also deal with Windows, Mac, Network and Hardware issues depending on team flexibility and technical availability. An ongoing responsibility of mine involved keeping documentation within the knowledge base up-to-date as well as the pages on the Intranet site. I was involved in various ad-hoc projects including the design and development of a 3D floor plan, which I later expanded into a PHP/MySQL web application.
